A fire incident in an off campus hostel in University of Ibadan, UI’s second gate has rendered some students homeless.
It was gathered that the fire started from one of the rooms upstairs and raged quickly.
Occupants of the nearby buildings were said to have called the fire fighters, even as men of the Federal Fire Services as well as their state counterparts responded to the distress call.
The firemen joined efforts and fought the fire which raged through the roof and destroyed parts of the building.
Some of the rooms and the roof of the buildings were destroyed by the fire but the firefighters battled the inferno until it was put out and prevented from destroying the entire building.
Some of the students living in the building were heard telling their neighbours that they did not have anywhere to sleep as fire had destroyed their rooms.
Director of Operations of Oyo State Fire Services, Mr Ismail Adeleke, confirmed the incident Wednesday evening.
Adeleke noted that investigations are ongoing in the matter.
He said ”Our men just returned from the scene and they were able to out out the fire.
“Investigation is still on going and the cause of the fire will be revealed as investigation progresses.”
