Two young children have narrowly escaped being killed by an angry mob, on Friday, in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, Oyo State, after they allegedly broke into a store.
Galaxy TV reports that the children were arrested by the store owners in Dugbe.
The juvenile suspects, Yussuff Olaide and Tunde Badmus, claimed to be residents of Agbokojo, an area in Ibadan.
According to an eyewitness, the children, who pretended to be scavengers, had constantly operated in the area without being caught.
The intervention of people around the area, who called to the police, prevented the mob from carrying out jungle justice on the children.
Officers of the state Police Command, who arrived at the scene, rescued the two suspects and moved them to the Iyaganku Police Station for further investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Adewale Osifeso, said the action by the police prevented a potential jungle justice.
Some of the shop owners, according to our correspondent, expressed regret for recent shop thefts.
