Dr. Olumuyiwa Adedeji has demonstrated his love for human capital development through his Alma Mater, United Secondary School, Idi-Obi, Agugu (USSA), Ibadan by awarding scholarships to students of the school who excelled in the 2005 May/June WASSCE and gained admission to tertiary institutions.

Three students of the United Secondary School, Idi-Obi, Agugu, Ibadan and Community Secondary School, Idi-Obi, Agugu, Ibadan (CSSA), benefited from the gesture announced at the 2025 Annual Scholarship Program held in the school premises on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The trio beneficiaries have secured admission to Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

Bello Faith, who gained admission to FUNAB got a sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (#100,000), Folaranmi Deborah received a sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (#150,000), Esther Adigun received full scholarship for her year-one programme at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo. It is expected that these students will apply to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for financial assistance in the second year of their programmes.

Two additional students: Deborah Akintayo and Aishat Washiu who performed extremely well in the 2025 WASSCE have been enrolled in a private tutorial centre to prepare them for the 2026 UTME.

The president of the Old Students’ Association of the School, Com. Taiwo Salawu expressed his joy, thanked Dr. Adedeji and called on others to give back to their Alma Mater.

He assured the school management that the association will continue to monitor the progress of the beneficiaries, while charging current students to face their studies.

Mr. Olusoji Adeoye, a member of 1987 set paid acceptance fees for all beneficiaries, totaling #150,000. In his words, “financial assistance to students by the Old Students’ Association is more than charity. It’s an investment in the future of individuals, the school and society at large. It empowers students, strengthens educational institutions, builds a legacy of collective progress, and fosters a culture of giving back”.

Dr. Adedeji, 1986 set of the United Secondary School, Idi-Obi, Agugu Ibadan, said the Annual Scholarship Program aims to bring out the best out of the students. He stressed that the gesture would give room for healthy academic competition among students.

Dr. Adedeji urged parents to complement teachers’ efforts by making sure that students read and devote reasonable time to attend to their homework. He admonished the current students to focus on working hard, reiterating that there’s no shortcut to real and enduring success.

Recall that Dr. Adedeji offered a one-year full scholarship to Mazeed Adeniyi in 2024 to attend LAUTECH and Abeebat Okesanya received a partial scholarship to attend the same university.

Mrs. Grace Iyabowale Adika, Principal of United Secondary School (Senior Secondary School), Idi-Obi, Agugu, Ibadan extolled Dr. Adedeji for his tireless efforts to brand the school, assist students and support the staff members of the school.

The elated Principal, Mrs. Adika who could not hide her joy prayed fervently that God would continue to sustain Dr. Adedeji, family, and his business. She congratulated the lucky students and used the opportunity to encourage them to work hard on their academic journey.

Also speaking, Principal of Community Secondary School, Idi-Obi Agugu Ibadan, Mrs. Afolarin Abimbola Oladunni lauded Dr. Adedeji’s commitment to academic success of the students and infrastructure upgrade of the school.

She equally thanked all teachers who played key roles in knowledge impartation and academic success of scholarship beneficiaries. Mrs. Mary Komolafe, Principal of United Secondary School (Junior Secondary School) encouraged the students to make good use of the unique opportunities being provided by the old students.

She admonished the students that are about to enter higher institutions of learning to remain humble and always seek knowledge.

The parents of the students appreciated Dr. Adedeji, old students’ association, school management and the entire teaching and non-teaching personnel of the school.
