The Oyo Unity Cup 2019 sponsored by the Minister Of Youth And Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, earlier scheduled to kick off in December has been postponed to 26th of January, 2020.
This was made known in a release by the Project Director, Mr Shittu Olaitan on Sunday, and made available to insideoyo.com.
According to the release, the postponement is to give room for proper preparation towards making the tournament a unique one.
The release read in part “This is to bring to the notice of the general public that the Oyo Unity Cup SD 2019, Sponsored by the Honourable Minister Of Youth And Sports Development ,Mr Sunday Dare (SD) earlier scheduled to kick off in December has been pushed forward.
“The postponement is to give room for proper preparation towards making the tournament a unique one .
The new date for the commencement of the tournament is January 26th 2020”
The release while highlighting the details of the tournament also added that the football tournament, which comprises teams representing each federal constituency in Oyo state, including Oyo state National Youth Service Corps, NYSC and Oyo state National Union of Journalist, NUJ is aimed at promoting Unity and uplifting Grassroots football.
“The Football tournament, which comprises of teams representing each federal constituency in Oyo state, including Oyo state NYSC and Oyo state NUJ is also aimed at promoting Unity and uplifting Grassroots football.
“Details of the tournament have been highlighted below: to develop, promote and support sporting activities at all levels in a bid to promote peace and unity, to complement efforts of government in driving sports development, to embrace sporting activities as a tool for nation building.” it read.
Shittu, in the release also apologized and regretted all inconveniences the postponement may cause.
“All inconveniences as a result of the postponement is highly regretted.” it added.
