A socio-economic group in Oyo state Grassroots For Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo on Thursday warned the governor of the state, Seyi Makinde and school directors who have started using innocent pupils in public schools as tools in the hands of the state governor.
The group condemned in strong term N450million bribe given to the directors of schools to start moving from one schools to another in coercing teachers and telling pupils to inform their parent about a party to be voted.
The respected socio-economic group encouraged Directors of Schools, Headmasters, Principals and teachers to disengage in risking their careers in support of politicians who are using them for selfish gains.
Grassroots For Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo in a statement issued by its Convener, Dr. Bello Razaq said it is disheartening to see Directors of Schools and teachers encouraging their pupils to tell their parents the political parties they should vote for PDP despite the poor performance of Education sector in the last four years.
The group, which recalled a video that recently went viral on the social media where a teacher was teaching pupils to recite PDP songs in school, wondered when the education became a tool in the hand of politicians in Oyo state.
According to the group, instead of the state government to focus on restoration of over 50 schools which were recently dilisted from the West African Examination Council, he was busy coercing teachers through their directors.
The group challenged the governor to tell the good people of the state the reason behind deranking the famous Polytechnic Ibadan from number 4 in Nigeria to number 24th.
Speaking further, the group said the issue of consultancy which has paralysed education system in tertiary institutions across the state should be a thing of concern to individuals who desire better future for the state, warning teachers not to turn schools to campaign ground.
“We wish to remind the bribed Director of schools to retrace their missteps. They should not allow politicians to runin their careers because of peanuts” the statement concluded.
