The Soun of Ogbomoso land, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege III, on Wednesday, presented medical equipment worth millions of naira to Bowen Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo state.
The items includes Delivery Couch, Trays and Equipment, Mobile Folding stretcher, Oxygen cylinder with regulator, Suction Machine, Incubator, Microscope (Olympus), Table top centrifuge, spectrophotometer, Photo Electric Clorimetre, Drum for sterile materials, Sadiometre, X Ray viewing Machine, pediatric sadometere and others.
Oba Olaoye who presented the equipment on behalf of the Ogbomoso First Community Initiatives (O’ First group) tasked the management of the teaching hospital on specialization.
The monarch said: “The last time I met with the management, I shared my 25-year development plan with them and I told them I want them to be specialists in some aspect of the medical line that will attract funding and professionals to the hospital.
“It helps the community, because those people who have the kind of ailment you specialized in will come from different parts of the country for treatment and that will boost the economy and medical tourism value chain.”
The monarch equally acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of O’first Group for their consistency in making Ogbomoso development their top priority
“You have done great things two times within a week. This is a personal challenge for me and challenge to other socio- cultural groups in Ogbomoso. We all need to do this together and I know we can start with a piece at a time. I know we will get there.
“The second we will consider is a low hanging fruit of development so as to make it easier for the development which is encapsulated in my 25-year plan.” He added.
Oba Olaoye tasked the management of the Bowen Teaching Hospital to make proper use of the equipment and maintain them properly.
In his remark, the President Ogbomoso First Group, Sir Olusegun Adekunle KJW, OON, said the donation is in furtherance of the spirit of serving the people of Ogbomoso selflessly and in continuation of the celebration of the coronation of the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III.
“I find it necessary to state that this donation is borne out of the wise counsel and observation of our revered Kabiyesi that Ogbomoso is lucky to be a host community to two University teaching hospitals and that no effort should be spared in enhancing their technical capacities and also in achieving the goal of turning the city into a medical tourism destination.
“It will be recalled that over the last three years (especially at the peak of COVID-19 Pandemic), the O-First Group supported the tertiary medical institutions in Ogbomoso by donating some equipment including Medical ventilators, oxygen concentrators, hospital blankets, PPEs etc to the Bowen Teaching Hospital and the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, respectively. It similarly helped to ensure that hospitals in Ogbomoso were among those prioritized by the federal government for supply of medical oxygen when there was scarcity nationwide.”
“Similarly, working as partners, there was collaboration to deliver the Medical outreach held at the O-First Centre, Oke Osuru, during which about five thousand underserved citizens were treated. We pledge to continue to do our best to support the medical institutions so as to optimize their capacities and ability to deliver quality services to our people.”
The Chief Medical Director, Dr David Akintayo Olaolohun appreciated the Kabiyesi and Ogbomoso O’ First Group for the donation and promised to make judicious use of the equipment and ensure proper maintenance.
