Shooting Stars Football Club, on Wednesday evening improved its position on the Nigeria National League Group B1 table after a 2-0 defeat of visiting Akwa Starlets inside the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The match as one of the rescheduled week six fixtures of the second tier league was watched by fair capacity crowd including the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo.
OpeOluwa Olufemi put the hosts ahead at 56 minutes when he jabbed in a loose ball after a superlative effort from mercurial midfielder, Ayobami Junior.
The goal served as a make-up for Olufemi’s penalty loss in the dying minutes of the first half.
However, Akwa Starlets fought back gamely with their occasional incursions into the vital areas but goalkeeper Kazeem Yekeen and his defence line were always at alert.
Relief then came with another goal on 75 minutes when Abbey Benson finished off another fantastic move of Ayobami Junior with a cool header.
Ayobami had mesmerized his way into the box before releasing a sublime pass to lurking Abbey Benson to put in and put the game beyond hard fighting Akwa Starlets tutored by veteran Godfrey Esu, a former coach of the Shooting Stars.
Earlier in the first half, OpeOluwa Olufemi had had a goal disallowed midway into the match when the AR 2 signalled an offside.
By this win, Shooting Stars are now second on the log with 10 points from five matches behind Bendel Insurance 11 points after its 1-0 home victory over JAtete this evening in Benin.
