The management of the Victor Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan, has issued a strong warning to students over a planned protest scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, advising them to shelve the action in the interest of peace and stability.
In a public statement signed by the Acting Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi, the school urged the Students’ Union and the entire student body not to proceed with any protest or attempt to block the institution’s gates.
“Available information to the Management revealed that the planned closure of the gates will be from 6:00 am on Tuesday, 8th July,” the statement read.
The management further warned:
“The Management warns the students against any protest that will be inimical to the interest of the institution and the government, as such action will not be tolerated.”
It emphasized that any such action would be seen as a direct provocation against the authorities.
“Any action against the interest of the institution or government will be considered as an affront by the authorities,” the statement added.
Parents and guardians were also urged to intervene.
“The authority of the institution also urged parents and guardians to warn their wards against activities that would disturb the peace of the institution.”
To forestall any breakdown of law and order, the institution said it had taken preventive steps.
“Appropriate security agencies who would work in conjunction with the Institution’s security have been mobilised to maintain peace and order within the institution,” the statement concluded.
This caution comes amid heightened tensions on campus following the controversial renaming of the institution by the Oyo State Government, a decision that has drawn resistance from students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
