The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan on Friday explained why the school has not reopened for academic and non-academic activities.
The school management, however, assured the stakeholders of the institution, particularly students, parents and guardians that the institution will soon be reopened after putting all things in order.
A statement from the institution signed by the Registrar, Mrs Modupe Fawale disclosed that the students who were given a mid-semester break on 4th April 2019 and billed to resume on 10th April could not do so because “the Management was fine-tuning the logistics for their resumption.”
The statement reads in parts, “The Management observed that there has not been electricity supply by IBEDC due to a major electrical fault to the institution in the last three weeks which virtually makes the resumption difficult as the institution cannot perpetually rely on diesel generated electricity which in all ramifications will not provide sufficient electricity supply for the students.
“The Management further observed that since the students would commence their first-semester examination almost immediately on resumption, every logistic to ensure their smooth stay has to be put in place. However, students are still expected to stay away from the institution until the management directs their resumption.
“Any violence or protest engineered by any group purporting to be students or interest groups within the institution will not be tolerated as those arrested by police will be prosecuted.”
The statement further appealed to parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards as the authority of the institution will not be liable for any action of the students while on this mid semester break.
