The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 11, which covers Oyo and Osun States, S.K Akande, has said that residents of Oyo State should freely come out to perform their civic duties on Saturday March 18 without exercising any fear of intimidation or harassment.
The AIG, in a statement released late on Friday, assured Oyo State voters that the Police will ensure the conduct of peaceful polls in the state.
The statement read: “Sequel to happenings in Oyo State especially in Ibadan axis, the AIG Zone 11 Command, Osogbo, has re-assured the citizens of Oyo State of their safety and directed that the electorate should go out and vote their choice candidates without any fear of intimidation or harassment on Saturday.
“More security personnel have been deployed to Oyo State to fortify the state.
“The Police hereby promise to deliver on the mandate of securing the electorate, electoral materials, and INEC staff to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
“The unreasonable killing of innocent souls, which happened in Ibadan, will not be tolerated again, and all perpetrators of this evil act will be dealt with.”
AIG S. K. Akande has also warned all troublemakers to desist with immediate effect or have themselves to blame.
