The veterinary sector in Oyo State has received a significant boost with the official opening of Petlife Veterinary Practitioners at Eléta Estate, Elebu Akala Expressway, Ibadan.
The event, held on Saturday, which drew key stakeholders in the veterinary profession and well-wishers, marked the launch of a venture dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality animal healthcare.
In his speech, Dr. Adebayo Awoyele, President of the Association of Private Veterinary Medical Practitioners(APVMP), Oyo State, commended Dr. Favour Oduwole, MD/CEO of Petlife Veterinary Practitioners, for her dedication to animal welfare and efforts to expand access to quality veterinary services.
He described the veterinary clinic as a welcome addition to Oyo State’s veterinary landscape, noting its affordability and accessibility would greatly benefit pet owners.
“Petlife Veterinary Practitioners is accessible to the community, and its affordability is a plus for veterinary care in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. The private veterinary sector will continue to support Petlife Veterinary Practitioners to ensure its success,” Dr. Awoyele said.
He emphasized the importance of private veterinary practitioners maintaining a cordial relationship with the government, stressing that such collaboration is essential for advancing the profession and improving animal healthcare standards.
In her welcome address, Dr. Favour Oduwole expressed gratitude to those who contributed to making her vision a reality.
She appreciated the support from the veterinarians, responsible pet owners and acknowledged their role in ensuring high standards in animal care.
Dr. Oduwole revealed that Petlife Veterinary Practitioners began operations on May 5, 2019, in a small way but has now grown into a fully equipped veterinary center.
“The name Petlife was inspired by my desire to give life to pets and ensure they receive proper care. This is a dream come true for me,” she said.
She highlighted the range of services offered at the clinic, including pet treatment, pest fumigation, consultancy, and the sale of pet food and accessories.
Dr. Oduwole urged dog owners and those that own other type of animals as pet to be responsible and prioritize their animals’ health and well-being.
The Chairman of Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association Oyo State Branch, represented by Dr. Oghenekaro Okeoghene appreciated the intentionality of veterinarians to set up standard veterinary clinic.
She emphasized that as the trend of things are changing towards standardization of veterinary practice, it will help to improve quality of animal health service delivery.
She encouraged, the employees to be dedicated and diligent in carrying out their duties so that the objectives of the Petlife Veterinary Practitioners can be achieved.
The Deputy Provost, Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan, Dr. Olusegun Ayodeji, formally declared the veterinary clinic open by cutting the ribbon, inviting all present to inspect the facilities during the opening ceremony.
