The School of Secondary Education (Languages) of Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate held a ceremony to recognize and reward its outstanding students.
The event which took place on Wednesday, 30 July, 2025 saw the presentation of sponsorship awards in monetary form to the best five students from various departments.
The award came from a philanthropist, Mr. Segun Obilaja, who happened to be a friend of the former Dean of the School, Mr. A. A. Yusuf of French Department.
Speaking earlier at the programme, the Acting Provost of the College, Mr. Johnson Oladipupo ably represented by Dr. Segun Okedigba of English Department, stated that students were expected to be responsible people who should not be forced to do the right things but were expected to present themselves as good ambassadors of the college and their families.
“We want our students not only to graduate with good certificates but with good morals”. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the donor and appealed to the students of the school to maintain cordial relationship with their school mates, noting that the good relationship built by the donor and Mr. Yusuf was what brought about the donations they had benefitted from.
Dr. Okedigba however called on the students to be serious with their studies. “There is reward for every action and the reward for exceptional academic performances is what is being manifested today”, he noted.
The award was aimed at encouraging academic excellence and motivate students to strive for greatness. The awardees; Adejumo Favour Bolu from English Department had a total grade point (GP) of 4.59, others were Ogunniyi Deborah of Yoruba Department, Ayooluwa Winner and Ayanniyi Oluwatimileyin both of English Department and Oladejo Taoheed of Arabic Department. The awardees were selected based on their outstanding academic records.
Meanwhile, the male football team who led and won the Provost’s Cup on Thursday 24 July, 2025 was also presented with a trophy donated by Ag. Dean of the School, Mr. Fagbenga Agoro Oyeniyi. The school also gifted the team a cash award to encourage the players and boost their morale for better performances in upcoming competitions.
The event showcased the school’s efforts to promote academic excellence and support extracurricular activities, by demonstrating its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals both in academics and sports.
