The Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, has announced the passing of its Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs, Alhaji Onike Rahman, describing him as a seasoned administrator, prolific writer, and respected comrade.
In a condolence message signed by the Registrar, Mr. R.F.A. Adeniji and the Public Relations Officer, Olawore Opeyemi on behalf of the Rector, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi, and the management, the institution said the sudden death of Alhaji Onike occurred on Thursday, 11th September, 2025.
“The deceased, who became indisposed shortly after delivering a lecture on campus, was rushed to the hospital for prompt medical attention but was later pronounced dead by medical experts,” the statement noted.
The Rector, Prof. Akinlabi, commiserated with the Registry Department, staff, students, colleagues, friends, wife, children, and family of the deceased, describing the development as a colossal loss to the institution. He prayed Almighty Allah to grant him Aljanah Fridous.
The school further noted that until his death, Alhaji Onike was the immediate past congregation representative on the Governing Council of the institution. He joined OYSCATECH in 2008 as an Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Registrar.
The institution described him as a respected comrade and activist who was widely admired for his diligence, public speaking, and commitment to the growth of the college community. He was also an alumnus of Saint Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo, the University of Ibadan, and Olivet High School, Oyo.
According to the family, his remains will be laid to rest in Oyo town on Friday, 12th September, 2025, with the body departing Igboora at 7:00 a.m.
“The entire college community is greatly devastated and saddened by this sudden passage. Alhaji Onike will be greatly missed by all,” the statement added.
