The Mobile Court of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) had at its sitting on Wednesday 18th September 2019 tried and convicted two traffic offenders whose vehicles were impounded for disobeying the traffic rules of the State.
In a led judgement delivered by Senior Magistrate of the Mobile Court, Magistrate Maaruf Mudashiru in the case of OYRTMA VS FEMI ANULOPO, the defendant who pleaded guilty to a one count charge of illegal parking was convicted and liable to a fine of N5,000.
In a similar case between OYRTMA VS BAR. AYOKUNLE ADEOGUN, the Court, having listened to the DEFENDANT, used its prerogative to tamper justice with mercy.
“Having listened to the defendant, it has been proven that the offence was not intentional but an inadvertent action. This court as a court of justice and equity, since the Defendant has pleaded N2,500 as the only money left on him, he is to pay same as fine”, the court judgement read.
Reacting to the convictions, OYRTMA Executive Chairman, Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi said the court shall leave no stone unturned in ensuring the speedy and fair trial of traffic offenders. He described the court actions as a means of deterring drivers from flaunting traffic rules.
