The leaders of Trade Union Congress, TUC, in Oyo state, on Tuesday visited the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde over the implementation of the new minimum wage, insideoyo.com reports.
The union also discussed workers’ welfare, training, better conditions of service & workforce casualisation in the private sector with the Governor.
This was made known by the Governor in a post on his verified twitter account.
The union led by the Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogundiran also urged the state government to look into a report submitted by the union on how Oyo state can increase its internal generated revenue.
The tweet reads, “Leaders of the Trade Union Congress in Oyo State led by Comrade Emmanuel Ogundiran, visited us at the State House, yesterday. They made some demands regarding workers’ welfare; minimum wage, training, better conditions of service & workforce casualisation in the private sector.
“Comrade Ogundiran also appealed to us to look into a report submitted by TUC on ways Oyo State can increase internally generated revenue. On behalf of our admin.”
The governor assured them of his commitment towards the development of the state through industrial harmony. He added that workers welfare is a priority of his administration.
“I assured them we are all equal stakeholders, and that we can’t have progress without industrial harmony in our state.
“The welfare of our workers in Oyo State is a priority for our admin, and we’ve started implementing solutions to some of the demands made. We’re also working to increase our internally generated revenue to enable us fund more capital projects and pay public servants better wages.” the tweet reads.
