Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Oyo State chapter has congratulated His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde who was today sworn in as the new Governor of Oyo State.
In a congratulatory letter signed by the state chairman, Olaolu Fawole on behalf of Sports Writers in Oyo State, members of the Association are confident that the administration of Governor Makinde would give the sports sector a new lease of life.
Fawole who recalled the sponsorship of a SWAN five A-side football competition by Governor Makinde in 2013 expressed confidence that many promises the Governor made during his electioneering to give full support to the development of sports in Oyo State indicated that the Governor would be a sports loving Governor.
The Association appeals to the new Governor to look into improving the living standard of the state’s sports men and women, and stressed the need to organise sports programmes to discover talents mostly at the grassroots.
According to Oyo SWAN, two of the talents discovery sports programmes should be inter schools sports competitions and local government games for schools.
The Association points out that the zeal of Governor Makinde to ensure that the darling club of Ibadan, Shooting stars sports club and Crown FC of Ogbomoso compete for continental trophies by 2021 should not be a candle in the wind.
While expressing the professional support of sports writers in Oyo state for the Governor, fawole also prays for developmental governance in the next four years.
