Mogaji Joseph Olansunkanmi Tegbe, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo South Senatorial District, has reacted to the election results in the district.
Tegbe in a statement, on Monday, said they are still studying the election results adding that any electoral fraud discovered will be challenged.
He thanked his supporters, loyalists, volunteers and others for their efforts.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli has the winner of the election conducted on Saturday.
The Returning Officer, Professor Wole Olatokun while announcing the result of the election in the early hours of Monday, maintained that Alli of APC scored a total of 111,513 votes to defeat all other candidates who contested the election.
Olatokun explained that other candidates such as Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 92,481 votes to claim the second position while Idris Kolapoboye Kola-Daisi of Accord scored a total of 33,641 votes.
Others who participated such as candidates of SDP got 655, LP, YPP scored 603, NNPP scored 1314.
The statement reads: “Good people of Oyo South, I wish to use the opportunity again to thank you for your support before and during the election. My sincere appreciation to our loyalists, the volunteers and all supporters of the Tegbe Movement and the PDP at large for their good efforts towards the just concluded elections.
“As good citizens of our country and stakeholders in our Senatorial District, you have performed your civic responsibility by coming out to vote, and peacefully too. I urge everyone to remain calm as we are studying the results from various units and wards especially those places where the official report differs from our field report.
“As such, this result is unacceptable and I want to assure you that any electoral fraud discovered will be challenged within the full ambit of the law.
“At this moment, I wish to remind everyone that whatever setback from this election is just a minor hurdle we have to cross before the gubernatorial election scheduled for March 11th 2023.
“Rather than being discouraged, we should guard our loins and double our determination to support and deliver His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde for a second term to keep Oyo state on the path of development.
