The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, has decried the nonchalant attitude of some residents of the state in collecting their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
Agboke spoke on Monday in Ibadan at a sensitization campaign on the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) at the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Agbara, Ashi in Ibadan.
The REC, who led other management staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the church, said that 720, 767 out of 2,934,107 PVCs in the state were still in custody of the commission.
He urged those yet to collect their PVCs to visit any INEC office in their respective local government areas.
Agboke also encouraged those yet to register for their PVCs to make use of the opportunity.
He said that the commission was exploring the Churches, Mosques and other religious gatherings to pass the message across to their congregations.
“You can imagine the number of worshippers here and the extent they can go to relate the message to other members.
“This Church, in particular, was one of the major pillars of our success in 2019 general elections, and that was why we deemed it fit to come back here to solicit for more cooperation.
“Today is not about voting, but about registration. Before voting you must have your PVC, so those of you that are eligible and yet to register should endeavour to come out and register,” he said.
Agboke said that people could register in any of the INEC offices in the 33 local government areas of the state.
In his remarks, the Founder of the Church, Prophet Michael Olowere, thanked INEC for sensitizing the public on the need to register for their PVCs.
