As part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s socio-economic drive, the Chairman of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, has recently inspected ongoing projects in Ibadan.
The projects include the Agbowo Shopping Complex, a proposed hotel development behind Premier Hotel, second lane of the Olodo bridge, and the overhead bridge at Ajia.
At the Agbowo Shopping Complex, Engr. Open Salawu said the visit was to ensure that the project was in line with specifications and architectural drawings. “We are satisfied with the progress made so far, and we believe that the contractor understands the importance of this project to the socio-economic activities of this axis,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s approach, emphasizing the complex’s importance to the socio-economic activities of the area. “This complex will not only provide a conducive environment for business activities but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth,” he added.
The team also visited the proposed hotel development, which is at the foundation stage. The 167-room five-star hotel will feature Presidential and Vice-Presidential suites, executive suites, and other facilities. “This hotel will be a game-changer for the hospitality industry in Oyo State, and we are committed to ensuring that it meets the highest standards,” he said.
The Babalaje of Ogbomoso land encouraged the contractor to engage Youth Corps members and University interns in Engineering disciplines to gain experience. “We want to ensure that our youth are equipped with the necessary skills to compete in the industry, and this project provides a great opportunity for them to learn,” he said.
The inspection also covered the Olodo bridge and Ajia overhead bridge, both still under construction. The second part of the Olodo bridge is expected to be completed before the end of the year, while the Ajia overhead bridge will ease traffic for motorists heading to the airport.
Engr. Open Salawu emphasized that these infrastructure projects would facilitate the movement of goods and services. “We are committed to ensuring that these projects are completed on time and within budget, and that they meet the highest standards of quality,” he said. The agency will continue to conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and encourage quality work.
