The Oyo State Police Command has launched an aggressive campaign in secondary schools in the state with the aimed at tackling the rising menace of cultism and other social vices among the youth in the state.
The initiative commenced on July 1, 2025, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola.
Since the commencement of the initiative in July 1,2025, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the state have also key into the campaign in order for the message to reach all students in the state.
This decisive action aligns with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who has emphasised the need for a robust response to the challenges posed by cultism and gang violence in educational institutions.
The campaign is not only a response to specific incidents of violence but also a proactive step toward fostering a safer environment for students.
It would be recall that in kicking off the campaign at Government Technical School, Orita Aperin, and Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Grammar School, Aperin, the Commissioner of Police and his management team engaged with students through interactive sessions and motivational talks.
The CP educate the youth about the dangers associated with cultism, drug abuse, and other anti-social behaviors and encouraged them to prioritise their education and make constructive choices.
Adenola emphasised on the importance of education and personal integrity, urging students to resist negative influences and focus on their academic and personal development.
He also reiterated the commitment of the Oyo State Police to work collaboratively with schools, parents, and community stakeholders to create a culture of safety and responsibility within educational environments.
Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across Oyo State are already implementing similar educational outreach programs in schools to further amplify the impact of the campaign against cultism and other social vices.
Efforts of the Area Commanders and Divisional Police officers would help to extend the reach of the campaign’s message and ensure that all students in the state are informed and empowerment to reject violence and embrace positive values.
Principals, teachers ,students and other stakeholders in the education sector in Oyo State commended the steps taken by the Oyo State Police Command, saying it would go along way in eradicateing cultism and other social vices in Secondary schools in the state.
