Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council, Raji Adebayo has emerged the winner of the table tennis and draft competitions..
Raji emerged as the winner of the two games during the sports day organised as part of the activities for the 2023 NUJ Press week.
The sports day was sponsored by the immediate past minister of youth and sport Chief Sunday Akin Dare.
It featured Road Walk from NUJ press centre to G. Allen through Oke Bola and Olubadan stadium and back to the NUJ press centre and indoor games such as Ayo Olopon, Table Tennis. Draft and Ludo among others.
Raji, who is the Oyo State Correspondent of Daily Independent, during the table tennis and draft competitions which are part of the indoor games, beat hard fighting NUJ secretary, Sola Oladapo in a tough and tension soaked come back two sets after losing first game, 11-9, 9-11, 7-11 at final after defeating Seun Falomo of Galaxy at Semi final.
In draft, Raji floored Cosmos Oni a former national Vice President of NUJ to emerge the winner in the draft competition.
The former minister who powered the event was represented by Chief Olawale Ademola, a frontline politician in Oyo state and member of governing council board member of Centre for Management Development.
But the former minister, Dare was present on the Veteran day as the Chairman of the day, said he was happy to be part of the event which according to him is a must do for fitness and mental alertness.
He urged journalists to always ensure they engage in sporting activities and regular exercises.
NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola in his address, said the essence of the road walk is to make the body fit while the game is to promote love and unity among journalists in the state
He hinted that the union do hold period exercise and urge members to always engage in one form of exercise or the others.
