The Oyo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced its withdrawal from participating in tomorrow’s Local Government election in the state.
PDP Chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha who announce this at the end of the party’s State Working Committee meeting held in Ibadan, on Thursday, directed its members to distance themselves from the Saturday’s election.
He predicted the outcome to be an effort in futility.
Mustapha in a statement made available by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Akeem Olatunji, declared that, “The purported local government elections from all indications has failed integrity test and a complete mockery of democracy due to the undemocratic remarks of OYSIEC Chairman on a radio programme that he is not bound to obey Court Order as regards the conduct of the Saturday LG elections”.
He said that, “it is against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a State electoral body to delineate wards which is the statutory responsibility of Boundary Adjustment Commission in conjunction with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding electoral procedure.
“It will therefore amounted to legalizing an illegality if PDP should participate in the sham election.
