Hon. Shittu Ibraheem, representing Saki West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has dissociated himself from the approval of a ₦300 billion loan reportedly passed by the Assembly on Tuesday, 26th August 2025.
In a statement made available via his social media pages, the lawmaker clarified that he was not part of the plenary session where the loan was approved, insisting that the sitting was convened during the Assembly’s ongoing six-week recess without the knowledge of all members.
“I want it to be on record that I, Hon. Shittu Ibraheem, representing Saki West State Constituency, am not among the lawmakers who approved a loan of ₦300 billion on 19th August 2025 and perfected on 26th August 2025 in an emergency sitting during our recess,” he declared.
The Oyo Assembly had proceeded on recess on July 31st, with members expected to resume on September 16th.
According to Hon. Ibraheem, the “emergency plenary” that approved the loan was not properly communicated to every member, raising questions about transparency and inclusiveness in the legislative process.
Expressing concern about the timing and necessity of the loan, he added:
“This loan comes at a time when all states already receive more than enough. Oyo State, in particular, now gets about a 500% increase in FAAC. Why take this loan? Why should it be treated as an emergency, and why was the sitting not communicated to all honorable members?”
The lawmaker urged citizens to hold their leaders accountable, stressing that financial decisions of such magnitude should reflect both due process and the interests of the people.
