In his attempt to eradicate illiteracy in his constituency, Hon Olusola Owolabi, lawmaker representing Ibadan North East State Constituency II has equipped students at his adult education center with necessary materials needed to enable them continue their education.
The project which has succeeded in educating many people was divided to 3 parts which include basic, post and advance section.
While speaking, the coordinator, Comrade Wasiu Tijani said the main reason why Hon Olusola Owolabi brought out the idea is because of how old people are being maltreated due to the fact that they can not read and write their names.
He said: “We started this over a year now as we noticed how old people have been cheated because of their inability and we took it upon ourselves to guide in acquiring this knowledge of education and as you can see now majority can read, write their names and read their text messages.
“We are doing this for free and as we understand that old people might not have money to transport themselves, we decided to give money for transport in order to encourage to put in their mind as they embark on the journey to improve themselves.
Speaking to one of the beneficiaries, a 60-year-Old woman, Sulatu Shittu said she can now go to bank to fill in documents herself due to the knowledge she has acquired so far.
“I can now go to banks, I can read my text messages, no one can cheat me again as I am good in calculation now. I want to thank Hon Olusola Owolabi for this opportunity which is changing our lives.”
Also speaking, Kamilu Hamzat said this Adult Education has improved his business transaction with people and he is aware of some certain which was used to defraud him before the class.
“I am happy to be here, it’s a great addition for me as I can do things I thought I can not do due to my low level of education. I can’t use the ATM machine before but I can do it and I want to thank Hon Olusola Owolabi for doing this for us, we appreciate it and may God bless him.”
