A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Ibadan South West constituency one, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi has given Rodiat Ayegbajeje and 10 other students from his constituency scholarship award to the tertiary institution level.
Rodiat Ayegbajeje, who lost her father in 2019 at age of one, now five years old, will enjoy the scholarship from primary to the university level.
Hon. Adebisi, who also gave two years scholarship to another ten secondary school graduating students for their National Diploma (ND) program, said the gesture is to commemorate the 2024 Children’s Day celebration.
The fun-filled and entertaining event also witnessed ten students receiving scholarship to write the forthcoming Common Entrance Examination in the state for free.
The beneficiary students were drawn across primary schools in the constituency.
Addressing the constituents, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi said that it is essential to cater for the children and exposing them to the responsibilities ahead to remind them that they are the leaders of tomorrow.
He opined that the exposure will go a long way in making them to be aware that education is the only key that can open every door of opportunity in their choice of career.
The lawmaker commended the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who he described as his father figure and mentor for his support towards realization of his dream in politics.
He also appreciated the support of his party (PDP) and donors of one gift or the other to the event for their support and kind gesture extended to the children.
Hon. Adebisi charged the students in the constituency to see the programme as a challenge to rededicate and refocus their time and energy towards realizing their objectives in life.
The Chairman House Committee on Youth and Sports urged them to do away with bad friends that can influence them to get involved in bad habits such as taking hard drugs, thuggery amongst others.
The lawmaker explained that he was prompted to give full scholarship to Rodiat Ayegbajeje, saying that circumstances that led to the death of her father was uncalled for.
Hon. Adebisi promised to do whatever in his capacity to support the family her father left behind apart from the full scholarship given to his lone child.
He, therefore, charged the people to give priority to their lives rather than every other frivolous things, especially behavior that can lead to the loss of life in the constituency and Oyo State in general.
The lawmaker, who also presented Children’s Day gifts to 500 set students of various primary schools including public and private within the constituency, promised to make the programme, a continuous exercise.
In her goodwill message, the representative of the state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Deputy Corp Commander, Rita Owasuyi-Omowa, who is the Head Training, RS11. 3, Oyo Sector Command, enjoined the students to emulate and make the people who have make impact in the choice of professions their role models.
She said this will serve a guide for them and do away with any form of immoral behaviors that may come their way.
Deputy Corp Commander Owasuyi-Omowa used the occasion to educate the students on dangers associating with students cross the road.
She said there is need for them to understand the traffic drills especially when it comes to crossing the dualized roads. The FRSC officer also educated them to always put clothes with colour especially at night to enable the drivers to sight them and avoid eating while walking on the roads.
She charged the road users particularly the drivers to always obeys the traffic rules, traffic lights and always put the interest of other road users, especially the pedestrians into consideration.
Owasuyi-Omowa commended the initiator of the program, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi for deeming it fit to organize the event of this nature in his constituency. she said that the event will go a long way in the memory of the children and them to give priority to their education.
Hon. Moruf Balogun, who is the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan South West Local Government, also appreciated Hon. Adebisi for being a good ambassador of the local government in the state House of Assembly.
Hon. Balogun disclosed that the programme is an indicator that good things can come out of ghetto. He affirmed that the areas such as Bere, Foko, Idi-Arere and so many others have produced many prominent personalities.
He urged the students to avoid distractions that might be coming their way because they are also destined to be to great persons like President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi and several well to do people in the society.
Some of the beneficiary students of the Common Entrance Examination scholarship include Olawale Iseoluwa, Oguntimeyin Aanu, Joy Adewumi, Farouk Olayiwola, Muritala Mohammed and Quyum Lasis
The event, which was attended by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, was highlighted by the presentation of gifts, quiz competition, dancing competition and face painting.
