The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA), Mogaji Akin Fagbemi has said that the provision of infrastructural facilities was pertinent for an efficient traffic system in the State as the State has been putting in all efforts to create by-passes within Ibadan metropolis to ease traffic problem.
The OYRTMA boss gave the call on Friday during a paper presentation at the public enlightenment program on traffic management organized by postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan School of Business, in collaboration with OYRTMA, held at Oyo Secretariat, Ibadan.
Speaking on the topic, “Reducing Traffic Congestion in Oyo State”, Fagbemi noted that traffic congestion within the state was mostly caused by human factor, adding that carelessness on the part of motorists, illegal parking and road encroachment by traders, alms beggars and hawkers were some of the sources of traffic congestion on the roads.
Fagbemi who stated that the success of the four-point cardinal agenda of the Seyi Makinde-led administration, key which he said were Education, Security, Health and Economy were heavily dependent on an efficient traffic system, called for the creation of a bypasses to aid free-flow of traffic within Ibadan city especially major roads.
He maintained that construction of diversion routes particularly for travelers would ease traffic congestion on major roads.
Speaking to journalists after the event, the OYRTMA boss solicited support of the general public to assist the agency in its work, saying OYRTMA was not out for the discomfort of anybody but for the safety of all.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Olagoke Akinajo who is the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport, called for the collaboration of concerned stakeholders.
He revealed that a motion would be moved on the floor of the house on Tuesday, 29th October 2019 for the creation of new motor parks in the State, assuring that the move would reduce the stress of all road users.
