Oyo State Government has compensated the family of the deceased officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Omikunle Sunday, to the tune of N1 million.
Omikunle of the NSCDC, attached to the State Joint Security Task Force, known as “Operation Burst,” had died after failing to survive an accident he was involved in on June 24, 2018, at Iseyin area of the state.
State Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Adeyemo, who handed over the cash to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Olayinka Omikunle, at Governor’s office, Secretariat, Ibadan, prayed the bereaved family takes the occurrence in good faith and as God’s will.
While noting that no one could bring back a life lost, Adeyemo said the donation was only to serve as a morale booster for serving officers that the state government will not abandon them in times of emergency or casualty.
Speaking further on government’s gesture, Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Security, Mr Segun Bolarinwa, said that cash compensation had been preceded by the state settling the medical bills and taking care of burial expenses of the late Omikunle.
Bolarinwa added that the gestures were covered in the Insurance scheme of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund for security officers who suffer casualties in the course of their duty.
In his remarks, Commandant, Oyo NSCDC, Mr John Adewoye, lauded the decision to compensate the family of the bereaved, noting that it showed that welfare of officers was of paramount concern to the state government.
The donation was witnessed by various security chiefs in the state as well as members of the state executive council
