Oyo state is far behind as West African Examination Council (WAEC) released the 2018 ranking of all the 36 States, plus the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja in Nigeria.
The top states on the chart are Abia, Anambra, Edo, Rivers and Imo while Oyo state emerged 26th, the only southern state after Osun state among the least states.
The latest ranking, insideoyo.com gathered that Oyo state dipped further from the 2017 ranking. The state’s position in 2017 was overtaken by Borno state, a north-eastern state, maintaining 25th position in 2018.

Last month, the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, released results of West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, with 49.98 per cent got five credits in English Language and Mathematics.
Head of Nigeria Office, Mr Olu Adenipekun, said: “786,016 candidates representing 49.98% obtained credits and above in minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.”In 2016, the total percentage of candidates that had five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics were 52.97%, while in 2017, it was 59.22% .
Recall that in June 2018, Oyo state government said it has put N2.5 Billion with Construction of three model Schools to the tune of N1.8 Billion and renovation of 100 secondary schools to the tune of N2 Billion in the state.
Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, stated this at the 59th edition of Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria, (STAN) conference held at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
He further stated that the “State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB’s infrastructural development consisting of new construction of schools, model schools, toilet facilities, furniture has gulped N3.7 Billion all to the total of N10 Billion.
