In line with the agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde to improve the standard of education in Oyo state, the state House of Assembly has called for urgent recruitment of more qualified teachers to address the dearth of tutors in secondary schools in the state.
The House at its Monday plenary also called on the Executive arm of Government in Oyo state to see to the regularization of appointment of PTA teachers who have served diligently in secondary schools across the state.
These were parts of the resolutions of Oyo State House of Assembly while deliberating on a motion on urgent need for recruitment of teachers in secondary schools in the state jointly sponsored by Hon Wumi Oladeji (Ogbomoso North) and Hon Sanjo Adedoyin ,Majority leader (Ogbomoso South).
Hon Wumi Oladeji who read the motion said PTA teachers constitute the bulk of teaching staff in most secondary schools in the state adding that many of them had served for over ten years in these schools hence the appeal to Oyo state Government to give them permanent appointment.
The House further urged the Executive arm to revisit the issue of provision of running grants to secondary schools in Oyo state as most of them key used PTA levies collected from students to run their schools before its abolition by the present administration.
The Speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon Debo Ogundoyin decried the poor state of education in the state and expressed the commitment of PDP Government in the state to give free and qualitative education to its students.
Hon Ogundoyin condemned the activities of some school principals who allegedly force their students to pay PTA levies stressing that the state Government has not imposed any levy on its students.
Other lawmakers called for a total overhaul of the education sector in Oyo state including provision and rehabilitation of structures in schools across the state.
Also at Tuesday’s plenary, the Oyo state house of Assembly announced that the screening of Commissioner and SUBEB nominees will hold on Thursday this week at the hallowed chamber of the Assembly.
Recall that names of fourteen commissioner and three SUBEB nominees submitted by the Governor were announced at the plenary last week by the Speaker.
Meanwhile, the 9th Oyo Assembly has passed two bills establishing the Oyo state Ministry of Finance and the Oyo state Ministry of Budget and Planning.
