The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday approved the ₦299.8 billion supplementary budget as presented by the Executive arm of the government.
Also, the House of Assembly has proceeded on a working recess to monitor ongoing developmental projects in their various constituencies.
The approval of the supplementary budget, according to the lawmakers, was necessitated by the government’s commitment to infrastructural development across the 33 local government areas of the state.
Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde, late last year, presented the 2025 budget of ₦684.1 billion, which was subsequently passed into law.
With the additional approval of ₦299.8 billion, the total budget size now stands at ₦984 billion.
Confirming the approval in an interview with newsmen, the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, Finance, and Appropriation, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola, representing Egbeda State Constituency, stated that the supplementary budget became necessary to accommodate several critical expenditures that were not initially captured in the 2025 budget.
According to him, “The supplementary budget will take care of the funds approved for the reconstruction of the Government House, workers’ pensions, and provisions for a new national minimum wage.
“The reality of the state’s financial obligations in the current fiscal year required a reassessment.
“This supplementary appropriation reflects the dynamic nature of governance and the need to respond to emerging priorities.”
The approved supplementary budget increase is a move to strengthen infrastructural development and social welfare across the state amid rising economic demands and inflationary pressures.
In another development, the Assembly has proceeded on a working recess.
This, according to the House, will enable members to carry out oversight functions by monitoring developmental projects in their various constituencies.
