The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State will hold its state congress on Saturday, October 30, barring any last-minute changes.
The congress was postponed on October 16 over alleged falsification of documents and disagreements on the list of delegates to be used for the election.
However, a meeting was held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday evening, where it was decided that the congress should hold on Saturday, The Nation reports.
According to the medium, the delegates list would be made available to stakeholders latest Friday morning.
The party also retained the seven-man committee headed by Alh. Gambo Lawan.
Some leaders of the party in the state had accused the committee of bias prior to the postponement of the exercise on October 16
The multiple blocs within the party in the state are yet to show willingness to work together as each struggles for the soul of the party. Though several efforts have been made to unite the different blocs, the fear of losing out in the struggle for the party’s structure ahead of the 2023 election is responsible for the latest disagreements.
The block within the party include the Unity Forum, Ajimobi Legacy Forum, the Lamists (those under the leadership of the late Government Lam Adesina) and those who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). No fewer than six persons who have governorship ambition are struggling for the control of the party.
Commenting on the new date, a source expressed fear that holding the congress without first resolving knotty issues among the groups may be a mere postponement of the evil day. The party leader said it would have been better to first resolve all the issues before having the congress to prevent possible crisis or implosion.
“Everybody needs to be assured of inclusiveness. That will generate confidence in them. Once that is done, any election held will attract minimal bitterness and legal fireworks,” the source said.
