The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole (Wolekanle), has congratulated the government and people of Oyo State on the celebration of the state’s 50th anniversary, describing the milestone as a moment of pride, reflection and renewed commitment to progress.
In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday Wolekanle said the creation of Oyo State in 1976 laid a solid foundation for development, unity and socio-economic advancement, adding that the state has continued to live up to its reputation as the Pacesetter State in Nigeria.
He commended past leaders and successive administrations for their contributions to the growth of the state, noting that the collective efforts of leaders and citizens have sustained Oyo State through decades of political, economic and social transformations.
Wolekanle particularly praised Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as visionary and people-oriented leadership, especially in the areas of infrastructure development, education, healthcare, security and workers’ welfare.
According to him, the current administration has repositioned Oyo State on the path of sustainable development and inclusive governance, ensuring that dividends of democracy reach both urban and rural communities.
He urged residents of the state to remain united and continue to support Governor Makinde’s administration in order to consolidate the gains recorded so far.
“As we celebrate 50 years of Oyo State, we must renew our commitment to unity, peace and collective responsibility. Supporting the present administration is key to achieving greater heights and building a stronger, more prosperous Oyo State for future generations,” Wolekanle said.
He also called on public servants, local government workers and stakeholders at the grassroots to demonstrate professionalism, dedication and patriotism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that effective local governance remains critical to the overall development of the state.
Wolekanle wished the people of Oyo State a happy golden jubilee celebration and expressed optimism that the next 50 years would usher in greater progress, prosperity and stability for the state
