The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo state, Chief Niyi Ajewole has debunked the news that the party has adopted the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Engineer Seyi Makinde as the party’s governorship candidate in the state.
Ajewole at the media briefing held at the state party Secretariat, Yemetu Ibadan, said the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Chief Ayorinde remained the candidate to beat in 2019, saying the purported adoption of PDP candidate by the SDP was “a fraud taken too far by some disgruntled elements in the party”.
Ajewole flanked by Ayorinde and other local government executives, said, “the national headquarters of the SDP made it abundantly clear that the party is not joining any coalition but forging ahead to contest and win the forthcoming general election.
“Our candidate is a reputable legal practitioner. He stands out and above any other candidate being paraded by any other political party in Oyo state”.
He also added that those that orchestrated the media briefing announcing the adoption had been suspended from the party for their anti-party activities.
“It should be noted that Kehinde Ayoola has been suspended as National Financial Secretary of the party a very long time ago while Kola Balogun has also been suspended as the State Chairman of the party because of their anti party activities.
“We wish to state from the onset that these two individuals have no mandate of either of Oyo State Executive Council or the Oyo State working Committee of Social Democratic Party for this unfortunate but fruitless declaration.”
