The gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), in Oyo state and former governor in the state, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has stated that if elected as the governor in the forthcoming elections, he will acquire the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) for Oyo state alone and pay the 30,000 minimum wage being demanded by workers.
Alao-Akala who was speaking to thousands of supporters at Monatan market in Ibadan to flag off the ADP campaign in Oyo State stated that he will ensure that LAUTECH teaching hospital complexes in Ogbomosho and Oyo will become operational and restore free and qualitative education in the state.
“We will abolish educational levies, strengthen didactics and ensure our candidates come first in NECO and other public examinations. We will get all our tertiary institutions on state subvention as practised all over the world, reverse arbitrary increases in fees and resuscitate State School Scholarship Board to assist gifted indigent students.
“We will restore the dignity of the teaching profession and institutionalise retraining and capacity building and visit all outstanding promotions and pay promotion arrears,” he stated.
He further promised to digitalise the state pension administration to address gratuities and pension arrears, adding that, “We shall bring back the pacesetter microfinance scheme to stop people from taking loans with exorbitant interest loan that has led to the untimely death of many.”
Alao-Akala highlighted his programs to include security, primary health care, food problems, urban renewal, employment, power supply and sports.
“Regarding football and other sports, we will do the impossible again by getting Shooting Stars Football Club and Crown FC back to the Nigerian Professional Football League at the same time in one season,” he stated.
The campaign paraded all candidates of the ADP who all urged people to vote for the party because it is the only party that has a leader who prioritises the welfare of the people.
“People should vote for us, it is not by violence but peacefully. We are going to take over from those who have over time used deception and lies to govern us. Ours will be a government that will be considerate of the plight of the people, we will not only construct roads, but we will also construct the stomach of people and ensure the system works in their favour,” Dr Fola Akinosun, one of the ADP senatorial candidates stated.
