“The measure of a man is what he does with little power” – Plato
2019 election is fast approaching; aspirants are on the move to secure ruling party’s ticket. More importantly, there is a strong move by the people of Oke-ogun region to rule the state. Despite this move, other regions are also not mute in the Agodi race. As an Oke-ogun person my hope and prayer is to have an Oke-ogun man as the next governor of our noble state.
A little bit away from generic, first and foremost, let me congratulate you on your recent appointment by the Buhari-Led APC Federal Government, as the Board Chairman, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Indeed you have made and still making us proud as a true son on Oke-ogun. But however, something salient issues need to be addressed. It’s a very common trend when it comes to the distribution of resources across the state – neglecting some areas in favour of some.
The news of you beginning the Campaign for PVC collection in Oyo state met my heart with enthusiasm and fad. No elite will say such move is not needed in our state. Especially, for Nigeria’s democracy and our dear Oyo state.
If at all there is any, such person needs as apartment at the nearest psychiatric hospital.
As expected your move to begin the campaign is no doubt a privy way to show you are not only an academic but a Professor of Political Science. But, it’s saddened and dejected to find out that the campaign billboards didn’t reach the nooks and crannies of the state. The billboards were mainly concentrated in the state capital and other parts leaving Oke-ogun – your origin. And this has been the case ever since democracy started, especially when it comes to distribution of dividends of democracy in the state. No doubt, Ibadan is the state capital and if not the largest zone. As a man from Oke-ogun, it’s not a crime if you didn’t join the bandwagon. Creativity and distinctiveness they say, is the best way to do things.
With my above claim and the adage, I believe it’s not bad if I judge you. This simply means, you will concentrate the development and resources to the state capital just as others have being doing. With the little resources you have – campaign billboards that cannot reach the nooks and crannies of the state, how can you convince Oke-ogun indigene that there will be equally distribution of resources peradventure you emerged as the governor?
The PVC campaign billboard is a simple test for the kind of governance we expect from you. I’m scared if someone like you emerges. What are the hope and the benefit of our yarning to rule the state? I’m scared things may get worse than when Ibadan and Ogbomoso ruled the state. Nigeria witnessed economic recession in this administration, despite the little resources available; we all know how our dear governor used it. It’s our time; don’t let us start with this prior action. Remember “ile la ti ko eso re ode”
