Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, the Executive Assistant to Governor of Oyo state on Project Monitoring through his foundation Open Integration of Learning (OIL) Foundation, has given scholarships to indigent students of Ogbomoso.
20 students are beneficiaries of the 6th edition of the scholarship. The beneficiaries are students of secondary school picked from the three local government areas of Ogbomoso. The scholarship covers from secondary to tertiary level of education.
While speaking on Saturday, in Ogbomoso, Babalaje of Ogbomosoland urged the attendees to develop their educational and digital abilities as well as find a way of impacting the society positively.
The Waziri Jari of Nupe Kingdom also charged the beneficiaries of the scholarships to be good ambassadors of the community and to distinguish themselves in their endeavours.
He sought the support of the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH and Federal Polytechnic, Ayede to assist the foundation in the area of admission for the beneficiaries.
His words: “Today we all gathered here to grant the 6th scholarship to these wonderful children from our community. It is a great pleasure to do this act and to encourage many more to surpassed this gesture, it might look very little but it could go a long way in the life’s of the Beneficiaries and It has created a mentoring platform for them.
“We intend to continue this act in which we started since 2018 and it is our prayer that all of the selected 20 students will become graduate in their choice of studies and become useful to themselves, their parents and society at large.
“So, we employ all leaders of higher institutions that are invited and those that are here today to join us in fulfilling the dream and aspiration of Intention to guide and support these 20 wonderful Sons and daughters of our great Community.
“Also the Beneficiaries should see this as a Loan and challenge from the community to them, to become successful in life and be able to replicate this and more in the future, with this kind of chain support we can guarantee a better future for our Community.
“Thank you all for Coming. May Almighty God bless us all.”
In his remark, the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomoso land, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Ayilara, commended the determination of the sponsor of the initiative.
He said: “We are particularly proud of Engr Open Salawu for the countless contributions he has made for the Ogbomoso community. Are we to talk of Federal Polytechnic Ayede or LAUTECH, his role is quintessential and even to the entire Ogbomoso communities? It is our prayer that Almighty Allah will continue helping you.”
While speaking, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Dr. Taofeeek Abdul-Hameed cautioned the scholarship recipients to make judicious use of the opportunity.
He said: “As the recipients of this generosity from Engineer Open Salawu, let me advise you all to read and be dedicated to your studies.”
Also speaking, LAUTECH Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kalilu said that Engr Open Salawu is a unique breed and that everyone should strive to be like him because of his generosity and commitment to helping the less privileged.
