One person was feared killed yesterday after the local government congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo Town yesterday.
The thugs were said to be returning from Sanga area to their ‘base’ in Ilaka/Apinni area of the town, after chasing away some leaders of the party.
Apart from charms which they tied to their arms and waists, sources said they wielded dangerous objects like machetes, broken bottles among others.
The deceased, identified as Idowu Mechanic, who was seated at a function in Ile Gbenku area of Apinni, with other guests, was said to have been allegedly stabbed for refusing to give them money.
His remains have been deposited at a mortuary of a popular hospital in the ancient town.
Sources told insideoyo.com that troubled started at when hired thugs stormed the Bola, Sanga venue of PDP LGA congress in Oyo West.
It was gathered that party leaders like former speakers- Hon. Kehinde Ayoola, Hon. Moruff Atilola, a former council chairman, Hon. Fatai Obabi and hosts of others were pelted with stones, an action which made them run for cover at the Oyo West LGA Divisional Police headquarters at Ojongbodu.
Men of the division, led by the DPO, insideoyo.com was informed, later led them back to the venue where Prince Akeem Olukitibi emerged chairman of the party in the council. The leaders later agreed to share the remaining positions on consensus arrangement.
An eyewitness, who confided in insideoyo.com, revealed the thugs, on getting to Apinni area of Oyo East, started attacking anybody in sight. The deceased got killed in the process.
It was learnt that the thugs were still on rampage last night just as sympathisers besieged the health facility at Araromi area of the town, to view the corpse.
