As the race for the Ondo State gubernatorial election heats up, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Otunba Bamidele Akingboye outlined his plans for transforming the state if elected in the upcoming November 16 polls.
During a press conference at the Correspondent Chapel , Akingboye, a grassroots politician from the Ondo South Senatorial District, reiterated his commitment to delivering competent and inclusive leadership.
Akingboye emphasized his vision of transforming Ondo State by improving security, boosting the economy, and overhauling infrastructure with fresh ideas that will enhance the quality of life for all citizens.
“Our state is blessed with immense potential, and we need a leadership that will ensure this potential is maximized for the benefit of everyone,” he said.
One of the key promises he made is to restore electricity to Ondo South, a region that has been without power for over 18 years.
“The people of Ondo South deserve better. I will ensure that light is restored to this district, ending the long years of darkness,” he noted
He also pledged to continue the legacy of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, acknowledging the efforts of previous administrations while promising to take the state further. “Past governors have done their best, but there is still more to be achieved. I am ready to build on what they’ve started, especially the late Akeredolu’s legacy,” Akinboye stated.
The Akeredolu family, led by Mr. Femi Akeredolu, has thrown its weight behind Akingboye’s candidacy.
In addition to restoring power, Akingboye outlined his plans for establishing a financial center in Ondo State, expanding housing projects, and enhancing the hospitality sector. These initiatives, he believes, will reinvigorate the state’s economy and provide opportunities for growth.
Akingboye, who has been contesting for the past 24 years under various platforms, first the Alliance for Democracy (AD), then the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and now the SDP, expressed confidence that the election would be free and fair. despite the current governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, also seeking re-election.
“I believe in the democratic process and trust that the election will be fair. I know President Tinubu will not allow any interference, and I trust that the people’s will shall prevail,” he said.
