Concerned by the deplorable state, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, on Thursday led some traditional rulers to the Iwo-Ibadan road to flag off the repair of the bad portions at Olodo, Ejioku and Iyana-Ofa axis.
The monarch who said the action was his response to the hardship daily experienced by road users, who had complained on the damage the road had done to their vehicles, noted that his similar effort at the Iwo-Osogbo axis of the highway had helped many vehicles return to the route
While noting that the efforts had boosted commercial activities in the area, the monarch promised to ensure the second phase was fixed with a view to fully exploring the proximity advantage of Iwo to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Oba Akanbi also stated that he personally felt the pains of the commercial drivers whenever he travelled on the road, pointing out that his intervention was one of his visions when he ascended the throne in 2015.
He said: “I cannot claim to be comfortable inside my luxury cars when my subjects complain of dilapidated road as the one we are repairing today. We have spent five hours and we are not tired yet. We are not leaving here until we are satisfied.”
The traditional ruler appealed to good-spirited individual to also assist in whatever form towards the maintenance of the road to make it accident-free, adding that it is high time the blessed individuals embraced patriotic activities to complement the efforts of the government.
Other monarchs with the Oluwo during the exercise included, the Ologburo of Ogburo, Oba Asinmiyu Agboluaje, the Agberirie of Agberire, Oba Olajide, Baale of Papa, Ademola Adegoke, the Aremo of Iwo, the Sooko and akogun were also part of the interventionist team.
