Caretaker Chairman of Ogbomoso South local government area, Hon Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy has warned those exhuming dead bodies at public cemeteries in the local government area to desist from such act with immediate effect.
Hon Oyedokun said this on Thursday when he paid an assessment visit to the clearing and rehabilitation being done at one of the public cemetery located in Papa Abede, Ogbomoso South local government area.
The chairman while lamenting over the state of the public cemeteries noted that the state of the cemetery constituted a disservice to the dead.
“I wouldn’t call it a cemetery but would refer to it as a forest because there are overgrown grasses and trees all over the place and due to the neglects of past governments, the cemetery has become dens and hideouts for criminals and places for ritualists”
“I am pretty sure that there are reptiles and other dangerous animals there, such that something urgent needs to be done about it and that’s why we’ve began to clear the cemetery and cut down the trees,” he said.
The LG boss added that “tress that have sprouted all over the place allows people to come here any time of the day to bury corpses and many times would just drop dead bodies on the ground and leave thus making animals, birds and ritualists to have their field day undisturbed while only carcasses of the dead would be met the following week.”
“The cemetery which was supposed to be a resting place for the dead is no more as the dead are not allowed to rest. What is going on at the cemetery shows man’s inhumanity to man and where no respect or honour is given to the dead.”
He however sound strong warnings to criminals and ritualists who exhumes corpse at public cemeteries across Ogbomoso South LG to desist from the unlawful act before they are being caught.
