According to him, “We know that we have a health centre at NUJ, but it is moribund. I know that the welfare of our members is important, we will resuscitate the healthcare centre. We are speaking with some non-governmental organisations.

“When I was the Chairman of Correspondents’ chapel, I introduced welfare packages for our members during major festive period. We do give members welfare packages, so I will introduce it when I get there.

“Knowledge is key in our profession. Training and re-training is important for our members. We will train and re-train our members. We are going to partner with some schools. We know that some of our members do not have journalism background. There is unity in NUJ now. I want to build on that unity. After the election, I will rally round all other contestants to ensure that we are united.

“Every member will have equal rights and opportunities. I will not deprive anyone his or her rights. Transparency and accountability will be our watchwords. I will run an open door policies. I will partner with some people to ensure that we make use of some unused lands at the NUJ Secretariat.

A former Secretary of the union and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of information, Comrade Rotimi Babalola, advised members in the chapel to vote according to their conscience.

“I want to first of all welcome the Divine Mandate Team. I want to say a big thank you to Comrade Raji Adebayo for coming and for being the first to come here and campaign.

“2028 campaign has started. If you have ambition in 2028, start attending congresses now. Be more visible. This election is very dear to me in the sense that all the personalities are my friends, my brothers. Members, vote according to your conscience. Vote for those you know that have your interest at hearts”.
