Igboho, Oyo State – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Orelope Local Government have endorsed Jimoh Adisa Olabisi (JAO) as their consensus candidate for the Orelope State Constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The endorsement was made at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the local government secretariat on Monday, April 6, 2026, where leaders and stakeholders from various wards converged to agree on a consensus arrangement as directed by Governor Seyi Makinde.
This is coming contrary to an earlier report that there was a stalemate in the selection process as some stakeholders staged a walkout during the process.
According to a statement signed by Alhaji Azeez Adeoti, the immediate past PDP chairman of Orelope Local Government, the stakeholders resolved to zone the position of Member, House of Assembly to Ward 10, which has not produced a representative in the state legislature since the creation of Orelope State Constituency.
“The stakeholders agreed that since the creation of Orelope State Constituency, only Ward 10 of the council has yet to produce neither the local government chairman nor the member to represent Orelope Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly, hence, they overwhelmingly resolved to zone the position of Member House of Assembly to the ward,” the statement read.
The stakeholders cited the fact that Ward 10 is the second-largest ward in the constituency and believed that zoning the position to the ward is the best realistic formula for a successful outing at the general election.
The meeting, which was attended by about 20 stakeholders, saw 15 of them from various wards agreeing on Jimoh Adisa Olabisi (JAO) as their consensus candidate, while only five stakeholders from Obaago quarter opposed the majority decision.
Those who endorsed JAO include Alh. Yakubu Oladoja, former PDP senatorial chairman; Hon. Yusuf Yinusa Adekunle, senatorial chairman; Hon. Lukman Balogun, former member, Oyo State House of Assembly; and Alhaji Safiriyu Oyelowo, party local government chairman, among others.
The statement described the opposition from Obaago quarter as minority views, noting that the quarter is already advantaged in the scheme of things, with three of the four state appointees in the local government coming from Obaago.
It reads in full: “Contrary to the false and misleading reports on some online media, the PDP stakeholders in Orelope local government overwhelmingly endorsed the candidature of Jimoh Adisa Olabisi (JAO) to fly the party ticket in the forthcoming 2027 elections.
“The leaders/stakeholders met to agree to a consensus arrangements as directed by the Executive Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and at the said meeting which was held at the local government secretariat on Monday, 6th day of April 2026, the stakeholders agreed that since the creation of Orelope State Constituency, only the ward 10 of the council has yet to produce neither the local government chairman nor the member to represent Orelope Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly, hence, they overwhelmingly resolved to zone the position of Member House of Assembly to the ward.
“It will be recalled that the said ward 10 is the second largest ward amongst the ten wards making up the Constituency, zoning the position of member of the state legislature to the ward is believed to be the best realistic formula to a successful outing at the general election.
“Contrary to the lies in the online media of a stalemate situation, about 20 stakeholders met at the meeting to resolve on the consensus arrangements where about 15 of them who spread across the other wards making up the local government spoke with the same voice and agreed on Mr. Jimoh Asisa Olabisi (JAO) to fly the party ticket in the forthcoming general election for the Orelope State Constituency and only five stakeholders from just one quarter were opposed to the majority decision.
“The elders who agreed to the consensus include Alh. Yakubu Oladoja, former PDP senatorial chairman (Oseke), the senatorial chairman, Hon. Yusuf Yinusa Adekunle (Modeke) representative of Hon. Lanre Agoro, (Modeke) Alhaji Jimoh Sakibu, (Modeke) Alhaji Bamimore (Modeke) Hon. Lukman Balogun, former member Oyo State House of Assembly (Oseke) the local government chairman, Hon. Ogundiran Jacob Oluwale, Elder Adeladan Murital (Oseke) the party local government chairman, Alh. Safiriyu Oyelowo. (Modeke)
“Others include: Mr. Elizah Oguntona, (Igbope), Alhaji Jimoh Anigbaje, Alhaji Rasaki Ajibade (Oseke), Alhaji Salami Alagbaje (Modeke), Mr. Noah Oyeleru (Igbope) and Alhaji Azeez Adeoti, the former party Chairman.
“On the other side, the 5 members who held a contrary and minority views only come from one of the four quarters of Orelope Local government and they are Alh. Alani Sarafadeen Alwajud (Obaago)
Representative of Mrs. Adedoyin (Obaago), Mr. Asimi Apon (Obaago), Fatai Asipa (Obaago), Mr. Jaiye (Obaago)
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Obaago quarter is the most advantaged quarter of the four quarters in the scheme of things. At present three of the four state appointees in the Orelope local government come from Obaago alone while only one comes from Modeke. The Oseke where the candidate endorsed comes from does not have a single appointee despite the fact that the quarter has the largest voting strength in the local government.
“Meanwhile, the Obaago quarter who opposed the candidature had produced members of the Federal House of Representatives three times and a member of the House of Assembly in the past. The Obaago also has 14 appointees in the local government whereas the other three quarters share a meagre 10 local government appointees.
“The resolution of the stakeholders was reached in good conscience and with equity and justice particularly with a view to helping the party wins in the next general elections.”
