The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), under the leadership of Engr. Wole Ayanrinde, Chairman of the Ibadan Chapter, has successfully inaugurated the Students Chapter of NIMechE at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa. The event took place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Prof. Adebowale Hall of the institution.
The memorable event was graced by notable figures, including the immediate past Chairman of NIMechE Ibadan Chapter, Engr. Ogunranti Victor FNSE, the current Chairman, Engr. Wole Ayanrinde, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at AOPE, Engr. Sangotola, Engr. Oyesoro, MNIMechE General Secretary, among other distinguished guests.
In his welcome address, Engr. Ladipo O. A., Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at AOPE, encouraged students to be worthy ambassadors of both the department and the institution. He reminded them that they are being trained to become engineers capable of solving real-world problems. He also expressed appreciation to all parties who contributed to making the inauguration possible during his tenure as HOD.
Giving his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Sangotola, thanked the organizers of the event and specifically commended Engr. Ayanrinde for his relentless efforts in bringing the program to life. He urged the mechanical engineering students to remain focused and committed as they officially join the professional body.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Engr. Ogunranti Victor FNSE described engineering as the driving force behind the transformation of science, technology, and mathematics into practical solutions that improve everyday life, industry, and societal well-being. He emphasized the crucial role engineers play in making jobs easier, supporting industrial growth, facilitating the movement of people and goods, and minimizing environmental impact.
He also outlined the responsibilities of engineering students and the supportive roles of professional organizations. According to him, students should prioritize continuous learning, professional development, networking, adaptability, and self-assessment. Meanwhile, organizations are expected to provide networking opportunities, training, industry insights, career advancement, and mentorship.
In concluding his lecture, Engr. Ogunranti encouraged students to rise to the challenges of the modern industry. He stressed that the era of relying solely on white-collar jobs is over and urged them to position themselves as either job creators or highly skilled professionals with qualities that make them indispensable to any employer.
The highlight of the event was the official inauguration of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa Students Chapter of NIMechE, which was formally conducted by Engr. Wole Ayanrinde, Chairman of the Ibadan Chapter.
