The Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE) Ibadan Branch, a division of the Nigeria Society Of Engineers held its 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Stakeholders at the event emphasized the critical importance of enhancing quality and efficiency in engineering projects.
In his welcoming address, the Chairman of the occasion and National chairman, Engineer Saidu Hassan, FNSE, FNIHTE, NIHTE, emphasized the vital role of quality roads in economic development.
His words: “Quality roads make a crucial contribution to economic development, providing access to employment, social services, health, and education.”
Also speaking, Engineer Lasisi Adekunle Rafiu, FNSE, FNIHTE, Chairman of NIHTE, Ibadan Chapter and Chief Host of the event, expressed his gratitude to the chapter’s members and contributors.
He said: “I appreciate all of you for your support, and may God continue to bless you. Together, we shall uphold the principles of excellence in our field.”
The Guest Speaker, Engr. Kasali Adebayo Shittu, MNSE, Managing Director of Mahaal Engineering Service Ltd, delivered a comprehensive paper on the event’s theme, titled “Monitoring the Process of Civil Engineering Highway Road Projects in Accordance with General Specifications (Roads and Bridges).”
He said: “The quality and efficiency of our infrastructure are paramount, as they directly impact our nation’s development. It is our responsibility as engineers to ensure that our projects meet the highest standards.”
Dignitaries including Engr. Adeyemi Adegoke Olawale, a former Permanent Secretary of Oyo State, the Oniwaraja of Iwaraja Kingdom, Oba Sunday Ibironke, were in attendance at the event.
The Annual General Meeting also celebrated excellence, featuring the presentation of awards to special members whose contributions have been outstanding.
