The Nigeria Police Force has declared a United States-based Nigerian, Elusoji Oluwasegun Roland, wanted over alleged involvement in a high-profile fraud case running into ₦1.207 billion.

The declaration was formally published in The Punch newspaper on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, following a warrant of arrest issued by the Federal High Court, Lagos. The move, according to the police, underscores Nigeria’s resolve to clamp down on financial crimes that undermine its global reputation.

Elusoji is accused of masterminding a scheme on November 1, 2023, in which he allegedly defrauded victims of hundreds of millions of naira under false pretenses. Investigations revealed that he collected ₦525 million and ₦450 million for two property transactions that were never delivered. In addition, he reportedly obtained ₦232 million to purchase a 2024 Mercedes Benz GLE 63S, a black luxury SUV with VIN number 4JGFD8KB2RB134498, which was also not acquired for the victim.

The police have called on the public to provide credible information that could lead to his arrest, assuring that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality.

Authorities stressed that the case serves as a reminder for Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to uphold integrity and avoid fraudulent activities that tarnish the nation’s image.

While thousands of Nigerians continue to excel globally in business, technology, and other fields, law enforcement agencies note that high-profile fraud cases such as this cast a shadow over the country’s reputation.

The police emphasized that the pursuit of justice in the case of Elusoji Oluwasegun Roland reflects the government’s determination to hold offenders accountable, regardless of their location.
