Following an alleged helplessness of the police to save him from harassment of land grabbers, a man, Mr. Edward Taiwo Soetan has cried out to Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for help, saying despite court process, thugs and land grabbers have ruined his property.
Mr. Soetan who had earlier petitioned the Oyo state Commissioner of Police through his lawyer, Lateef O. Fagbemi & Co in a letter dated 27 January, 2021 entitled “complaint against acts of willful destruction of property, looting and unlawful harassment”, urged the governor to intervene “as the police had become lukewarm following the #endsars protest”.
According to the distraught Soetan, “he bought a landed property in which several commercial and residential buildings were constructed at New Garage, Ibadan, opposite NIMC office in 2003 which he has been using. Surprisingly, some thugs purportedly from the Amugiri family which sold the land descended on the property, demolishing all structures on site, harassing his tenants.
“The thugs who claimed to be enforcing a judgment delivered since 2004 which is unknown to me could not be pacified. I quickly filed an application in High Court of Oyo state, and served them , but despite the court process, the thugs and land grabbers have stationed themselves around the place, destroying my property as if there was no government”, he alleged.
Mr. Soetan who pleaded with the governor to wade into the matter noted that no sane society should succumb to the rule of thugs and lawlessness, pointing out that once a case is in court, all parties ought to allow court proceedings to conclude.
