In an effort to complement governor Seyi Makinde’s effort at maintaining a safe and secured Oyo state, the chairman, Olorunsogo local government, Hon. Qozeem Olayanju has commenced the construction of four outpost stations for Amotekun Forest Rangers within the council area.
The construction which is in two phases, has two of the outpost stations presently under construction and it is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year while the other two buildings would be begin thereafter.
This new development under Hon Olayanju’s administration as council chairman is in addition to the security and developmental projects embarked by his administration such as the provision of suitable office space for the DSS, handing over of newly built area command to Police force, commissioning of a befitting community hall, restoration of electricity to communities and community sports development among others.
According to reports, Olorunsogo local government is one of the major council areas in Oke Ogun being affected by the activities of kidnappers, bandits and illegal miners who have continuously hibernated in federal government reserves in Igbeti and its environs
Our correspondent reports that the first two Amotekun office currently under construction are located at Tesi Garuba (federal government reserve) along Igbeti-Kisi road while the second post is situated at Budo Ayinla, Igbeti-Igboho road ( FG Reserve Area)
Speaking during the inspection of work, Hon Olayanju said many of the reported cases of kidnapping, banditry and illegal mining in the council were carried out in the forest reserves and remote areas which are usually difficult for Amotekun operatives to quickly respond to, due to the distance from their main office to affected areas.
Olayanju said in line with the recruitment of new Amotekun forest rangers by governor Makinde, his administration decided to construct the Amotekun outpost, to be established at strategic areas, within federal government reserve areas where criminally minded people hibernate to perpetrate their crimes.
He said “with the new deployment of Amotekun forest rangers to Olorunsogo, we now have over 80 plus officers, so our plan is to liaise with Amotekun to deploy officers to man these posts and tackle security challenges when need arises”
“So, to tackle kidnapping, banditry and illegal miners, we have to move the post closer to where the criminals hibernate, the deployment of AMOTEKUN Corps into the forest and strategic areas in Oke Ogun will put a total end to incessant kidnapping, banditry, and illegal mining in the zone.
“We don’t have any choice than to always complement governor Makinde’s efforts on security matters, precisely his different laudable initiatives to empower the Amotekun corps”
He however charged the Amotekun Forest rangers to be civil with residents of the council but rid Igbeti and Oke Ogun in general off criminal elements and activities.
Hon. Olayanju who praised the governor for approving the deployment of the highest number of Amotekun rangers to Olorunsogo, also eulogized him for his decision to establish an airstrip in Igbeti.
He maintained that Governor Makinde’s administration has not only overhauled the security architecture of the state but it is also doing everything within its capacity to make the state safe and secure for every citizen.
He equally commended the governor for supporting and prioritizing the welfare of the Amotekun officers with hazard allowance, incentives, and provision of adequate equipment, and logistics support since the establishment of the agency.
“We keep enjoying Governor Makinde’s good governance in Oke Okun. Forest rangers are inaugurated to secure lives and property of citizens, with residents of Oke Ogun seems to be a major beneficiaries.
“Governor Makinde has changed the narratives of state security; he keeps bringing new initiatives to improve the sector.
“With the Amotekun forest rangers, the state is poised to record zero in illegal mining, banditry, and kidnapping. I congratulate the people of Oyo state, especially my people from Oke Ogun zone,” Olayanju said.
