The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress has accused the Governor Seyi Makinde- led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of lack of preparedness in the serious business of governance.
According to the party, this state of unpreparedness and lack of focus has reflected in the different gaffes, erroneous statement which the administration has been making since it assumed office on May 29.
A statement by the party Publicity Secretary, Dr Olatunde Azeez saiduif the administration had done its homework before now, it would have rolled out its blueprints for the development of the state. “ What really is their agenda, what is the focus of the administration? Where are they taking the State from where the Senator Abiola Ajimobi – administration left it? We are yet to know.
All we hear are uncoordinated statement that their focus would be on agriculture. What is the totality of their package for Oyo state? Their action has clearly shown that their is danger ahead? Under this administration, it is obvious that we will move from one innocuous policy or the other”.
According to Azeez, the Ajimobi administration came into governance with clear cut policies which it explained to the people of the State. The crux of that administration agenda rested on Restoration, Transformation and Repositioning framework. These were clearly spelt out. To restore Oyo State to its past glory as a pace setter State, to transform the State and to reposition Oyo State among other States in the country.
“When you know what to do, it makes your journey of governance very easy. You set up clear cut indices to achieve your objective. Under the immediate past administration, an end was put to the culture of impunity , arson and brigandage. Peaceful atmosphere was established, making Oyo State a peaceful haven for businesses to thrive. Within that period of Ajimobi’s stewardship, Oyo state was rated as the fourth investment friendly State in Nigeria by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Also within that period, business opportunities increased exponentially. Hotels, Events centre, night clubs grew by 147 percent, we had more radio stations from the initially Six stations in 2011 to 31. Do we need to talk about the extensive Physical and Social infrastructural renewal that led to good network of roads that has been unparalleled in the history of Oyo State.” All these were possible through planning and clear cut policies.
That policy is what this present government is lacking and which is giving us a.lot of concerns. Oyo State cannot retrogress, God forbid.”
The party advised the Governor to put his hand on the plough and begin the work to which he has been elected.
“Governance is serious business, he should move to serious act of governance instead of focusing on mundane issues of government officials making away with vehicles all aimed at achieving cheap popularity. If anyone has made away with any vehicle, they should list the names. Looking for cheap popularity is not governance, it is a reflection of unpreparedness for governance.”
