The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Dayo Ogungbenro has appealed to all aggrieved members of the party in the State to close ranks with Governor Seyi Makinde in their interest and that of the party adding that it is important for them to understand that Seyi Makinde as a governor is totally different from a mere Aspirant and Candidate of a party who can be bullied hence, no one can play god over him or the party.
Ogungbenro said this on Saturday while fielding questions from Aanuoluwapo Omorinde on BOTTOM LINE – a political programme on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan.
In an apparent response to some of the remarks of the aggrieved members of the party in recent times, the PDP Chairman stated that Governor Seyi Makinde is genuinely committed to reconciliation.
His words, “One of the the assignments given to me by the governor is to reconcile these people and you will recall that I stressed that in my inaugural speech
“Very soon, I will be going out with my team round the state and it is also in a bit to solidify the party.
“However, let me say this that I don’t like discussing issues relating to these my party leaders in the public but they must know that nothing can be achieved in a violent manner.”
On whether the PDP in Oyo State is ready for a virile opposition now that the APC has a functional Exco, Ogungbenro said “there is nothing to be worried about adding that the APC is on a voyage in Oyo State and it’s not likely to return before 2027.
“I openly congratulated the new APC Chairman yesterday on his appointment in the spirit of sportsmanship. Omodewu is my brother, I am from Otu and he is also from Otu but when we get to the field, we shall all see the difference.
“With the performance of my amiable governor in all sectors, I wonder what the APC will campaign with in 2023”.
Reacting to a prediction that Governor Seyi Makinde nay the PDP may need a coalition to win in 2023, Ogungbenro said “you know as a political party we can’t stop people from coming to our party but with the performance of Governor Seyi Makinde, there is no cause for alarm”.
He described Oyo State under Seyi Makinde as a model where good governance can be learnt.
He cautioned the opposition against peddling rumour about the PDP sponsoring thugs.
