Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday announced that the newly unveiled Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party secretariat will be named after a former state chairman, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha.
Makinde made the declaration during the unveiling of the party’s state secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he said the PDP in the state has overcome internal disruption.
“This is PDP State Secretariat. We were out of power from 2011 to 2019. In 2019, a chairman led the PDP back to power,” the governor said while addressing party members at the event.
He identified the chairman as Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, adding, “And that chairman is Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha. This house is going to be named Omokunmi Mustapha House.”
“The second thing I will do, this is the document to this property.
“I will hand it over to our national chairman for onward transmission to the Board of Trustees that holds things in trust for the PDP,” Makinde added.
The governor further declared that the PDP is now united, saying individuals he described as “vagabonds” who previously wielded influence within the party had been expelled.
According to him, the party is now free of internal disruption following the removal of those elements.
Makinde directed that Mustapha’s name be permanently inscribed in the building.
“So, architects, make sure you put a place where Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha’s name will be etched in here,” he said.
The governor also said the property would be formally placed under the care of the party’s trustees.
